Today part of my school burned down

At about 9:15 this morning a fire started in the metal shop on the right side of my high school. I don’t go in till about 9:40ish as it is, but I accidentally slept in today so when I was getting ready, my brother called me and told me not to bother coming in because the school was on fire. So I’m just sitting there thinking “What?”, got ready anyways and while on my way to school saw this: smoke coming from the school

another shot of more smoke when I was on my way home

Everyone was evacuated before it was even known that there was a fire, so no worries there.

The current rumor is that some freshmen from WAAST (we have 4 small schools, WACA (my school), WAAST, WeBSS, and AIS) was trying to light hand sanitizer on fire (why???) and succeeded, only to try and put it out with a paper towel, and then toss it in a closet where nobody would find it. That closet was adjacent to the metal shop, where it quickly spread over flammable materials. Currently we know that the metal shop, 2 computer labs, a health classroom, an art room, and an ag room have been completely destroyed, while we’re still holding out for word on the choir room and band room (though I’m pretty sure I saw the choir room on TV so I’m quite sure both the choir room and band room are destroyed as well). The ceiling above the metal shop, computer lab and (possibly) choir room caved in, and the computer lab is the only thing I really recognized. There’s more info on this page http://www.katu.com/news/local/Three-alarm-fire-burning-at-Woodburn-HS-151139175.html?tab=video (it says the alarm went off at 8:45 though a friend of mine said it was around 9:15, I was at home so I’m not entirely sure.)

Currently classes are cancelled all of next week, and we don’t know when they’ll start up again. This is good and bad, in that I now have more time to finish up my final papers and such for my classes, but my senior project presentation and graduation will all likely be moved around, so I’m a bit disappointed by that.

So yeah that was my day in a nutshell

This is an enormous chain and I’m sorry, but I need to say this:

The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by god as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for Original Sin.

According to Christian theology, when Jesus came from Heaven, it was for the express purpose of sacrificing himself on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image. That is why he said “it is finished” when he died on the cross. That is why Christians don’t have to circumcise their sons (god’s covenant with Jacob), that is why they don’t have to perform animal sacrifice, or grow out their forelocks, or follow any of the other laws of Leviticus.

When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your god and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you.

So maybe actually read the thing before you start quoting it, because the implications of your actions go a lot deeper than you think.

/An atheist who understands Christian theology better than Bible-thumpers do.
